In what is sure to be the coolest news on the project so far – Gareth Edwards revealed today via the film’s official Facebook page that the Kaiju Eiga legend himself, Akira Takarada, has filmed his cameo for Legendary’s GODZILLA! Kaiju expert and fandom-revered helmer of awesomeness August Ragone had the following to say on the matter:

THE LEADING MAN OF THE ORIGINAL “GODZILLA” APPEARS IN LEGENDARY PICTURES’ REBOOT FOR 2014: Akira Takarada, who starred as “Hideto Ogata” in Ishiro Honda’s 1954 classic, joins a beaming Gareth Edwards, director of the all-new American production. Mr, Takarada shot his cameo for the film on the first day of principal photography. Legendary Pictures’ GODZILLA opens nationwide on May 16, 2014!
