Godzilla has been in the news a lot these past few years with the massive success of both Legendary and TOHO’s outings. The former’s next installment, however, has been met with a bit of confusion online as of late:

Is the title for Legendary’s Godzilla sequel GODZILLA: KING OF MONSTERS, or KING OF “THE” MONSTERS?

Having a good standing relationship with Legendary, we reached out to the press department to get the official word for you guys so we can all know once and for all, as the incorrect title is still in use within the press:

The title is confirmed to be GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS, and not KING OF MONSTERS as previously released.

Sheana Knighton of Principal Communications Group, swiftly responded to us on behalf of Legendary’s Press division:

Thank you for checking – the correct title is Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Best,

Sheana

It seems the initial press release included a typo, and the film will indeed share the full title with the U.S. release of the 1954 classic Gojira, known in the states as (you guessed it) Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The initial confusion sprung from their announcement using the title KING OF MONSTERS without the “The”. Confusion over the title is still, unfortunately, very prevalent. We’re still seeing it used as recently as today by reputable sources such as Variety, Empire, and JoBlo, and frequently visited sites like IMDB still have the wrong title listed. We felt it’d be helpful to ask and get official confirmation from the studio – Still seeing a lot of articles, friends, and sources using the wrong title – including us recently! Either way, we’re happy to have official confirmation of the title now.

One of many famously vibrant posters for the initial U.S. revision of TOHO’s 1954 classic, GOJIRA.

We’ve updated our own site accordingly and hopefully this will help other sites retain the correct title as well. Thanks for following us here at Skreeonk.com!

  1. Really looking forward to this and thought Kong:Skull Island was good. I do have mixed feelings about the Godzilla design in 2014. Sometimes I thought he looked good and other times not at all. I hope they make some design tweaks.
