Hey fandom,
Apologies for the absence on the O&O here – Fall of 2017 has been utterly life-consuming for me – but I can report happily that I am now a married man! Thank you, everyone, for your patience, and for your wonderful involvement as always.
Now onto why you’re here! Japanese citizen and friend Jay Davies sent us over these great shots of the “Godzilla” promotional newspaper for TOHO Animation’s GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET. The cover features some familiar marketing material for the anime, but the “inside cover” reveals our first look at celebrated Kaiju artist Shinji Nishikawa-sans take on Anime-Goji:
The stance is very familiar, this Godzilla’s proportions being remarkably similar to Legendary’s 2014 design. The earthen textures of Big-G’s hide and unusual shadows on his face give way to a Godzilla that is perhaps more one with nature than any other before him. Pretty fantastic, right?
Thanks again to friend Jay Davies for providing these two images. You can view the aforementioned cover below:
What’re your thoughts on Nishikawa-san’s artwork, and the design in general? Excited for the anime’s coming release on Netflix? Let us know in the comments below and on our Official Facebook Page.
You can catch TOHO & Netflix’s GODZILLA: MONSTER PLANET (the first in a trilogy) theatrically in Japan on November 17, 2017. It stands to be released worldwide on Netflix after the film’s theatrical release in early 2018.
Until then,
