ABOUT G-FEST
For Godzilla fans in North America, there is nothing quite like G-FEST. In 2026, G-FEST XXXI returned to the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois, from July 10–12, once again turning the Chicago area into the center of the kaiju universe for one monster-sized weekend.
Held annually in the Chicago area, G-FEST is the world’s largest regular gathering dedicated to Godzilla, Japanese giant monsters, and the wider world of kaiju and tokusatsu. What began in 1994 as a small gathering of roughly 20 contributors to G-FAN magazine has grown over more than three decades into a massive annual celebration drawing thousands of monster fans from across the United States and around the world.
More than simply a Godzilla convention, G-FEST brings virtually every corner of kaiju fandom under one roof. The weekend includes appearances and Q&A sessions with actors, directors, special-effects artists, suit performers, and other veterans of Japanese monster cinema; fan panels and presentations; costume and model contests; video and tabletop gaming; filmmaking and practical-effects demonstrations; art displays; and one of the largest collections of kaiju merchandise available anywhere outside Japan.
Movies are also a major part of the G-FEST experience. In addition to screenings throughout the convention weekend, G-FEST traditionally takes over the historic Pickwick Theatre in nearby Park Ridge for special theatrical presentations of classic and contemporary Godzilla and kaiju films—giving fans the increasingly rare opportunity to experience these movies together on the big screen.
But what has kept G-FEST thriving for more than 30 years is its community. Despite its growth, the convention has retained the atmosphere of an enormous family reunion for Godzilla fans. Generations of attendees gather each summer to celebrate not only the King of the Monsters, but Gamera, Ultraman, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, and the seemingly endless creatures and characters that have made Japanese science-fiction and fantasy so beloved around the world.
